Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Account & Profile
Using Felse is currently possible only on iOS devices. By signing in to Felse with email or apple id you create an account. Logging in on a second device will automatically log you out on the previous device.
When wrong credentials are used while logging in via email, a “forgot password” button will appear through which you can request a password reset to be sent to your email.
For security reasons, deleting an account is possible only through the app when logged in. On your profile tab, go to the settings and find a “delete account” button all the way down. After confirming, this will remove all your information from the Felse database irreversibly and instantly.
You can change any of the information on your profile. Bear in mind that at least two photos and basic information are needed for your profile to appear in discovery results.
Should you want to not appear in profile discovery results and with that not to receive any new organic connection invites, you can switch off “Show me on Felse” in the profile status options.
To increase your chances of connecting with new people and keep Felse profile discovery consistent, the first two profile pictures have additional rules to follow. When adding the photo, you will be hinted on how much to zoom in, how to position your face, or to use photos only with one person. The other 4 photos are your playground to show your hobbies or your personality. All photos are checked for inappropriate content before saving, which is unfortunately not 100% robust and may lead to rejection of some of your photos. In this case, we recommend using other photos.
For additional authenticity, you can verify that the photos on your profile are you by going through a “verify mandatory photos.” We recommend this step to increase your chances of being discovered, even if it has an unfortunately not 100% accurate result, as many premium users can filter discovery results to see only profiles with verified photos.
Matching & Messaging
When you fill out the minimum required information in your profile and select your search preferences, you will be able to discover new people. At the same time, if you don’t opt out, your profile will be shown on Felse to others. When you find someone you want to connect with, you can type an invitation message to them. The recipient will then receive your invite and will decide whether to start a conversation with you or pass it on.
It may be that there is currently no exact match for your search preferences. Also, to motivate users to not be lazy and fill out their profiles, Felse will propose in discovery only those profiles that have the same or less percentage of information filled out. To increase your results count, fill out your profile completely.
There are two alternative ways to connect with new people, both are considered as non-organic and therefore will block the possibility of rating the other’s user profile. One alternative is that someone shares their profile code with you and you add them as a new connection directly, and the second is the possibility of sharing a profile with you that someone else is in connection with so that you can invite them also.
Under connection information, you can find both the option to reversibly block someone and the “disconnect” button. Blocking and reporting is available also on incoming invites.
When you receive a new connection invite, you are able to swipe up the profile card in order to trigger the block and report option, where you decide to just block or also report the profile. For existing connections, these options are to be found in the connection information menu.
For your organic connections only, therefore those connections found randomly through profile discovery, you might be prompted to rate the other user after some days of interactive chat. Depending on the search preferences of both of you, some rating fields might not be available.
To avoid superficial invitation messages, there is a minimum invite message length, so be creative and polite!
When fetching profiles on the Discovery tab, those with a purchased Featured week are prioritised in the results. When a profile has an active Featured week, depending on the purchased priority, they can skip the line within the currently featured profiles results. As the results depend on your search preferences and each profile is proposed only once, this Featured functionality does not guarantee the profile to appear in the result, but increases its chances to appear for crowded search preferences.
Subscription & Payments
You can use Felse with a limited number of profile discoveries per day, only one search preference set, a lower maximum events count in a group, limited language translation per day, a limited languages count in your profile set, shorter trip duration planning with fewer attendees, a limited events inspiration database, and without premium filters in search preferences, such as setting a custom location, filtering by profile last activity, or verified photos.
Premium subscription extends or completely removes the limits of a free account.
In settings, you can find also Premium Settings where you can manage your subscription.
You can request refunds through your Apple account. For more, search for “Request a refund for apps or content” on Apple support.
In Premium Settings, there is an option to purchase a Featured week including its priority. This is a consumable one-time purchase valid for a week thereafter. When the Featured expires, you have the option to manually purchase a new Featured week.
App Issues & Troubleshooting
Please send us an extensive description under what conditions the app is crashing via email or contact form. As a quick fix, you may try to delete the app completely and install it again as this resets its settings and saved data. Just a heads-up, this would also remove all encryption keys available in the device, so it may take some time until all your connections, events, and groups are restored after logging in again.
From your side, please check if the profile you are not receiving notifications for is not blocked, or check your notification settings in both device settings and False settings.
This might happen when a group or connection is removed. Either your partner deleted their account, removed your connection, or was reported too many times and banned from Felse.
Due to the end-to-end encryption nature of connections in Felse, there is always a risk of losing some data (events, chats, messages) when re-installing the app. Felse does store messages and invites only for the necessary period of time until delivered or for a maximum of one month on the server. Therefore, by deleting the app, you ultimately lose all previous chat messages. Data still available on servers is being restored if possible (other participants re-encrypt an event with a new key). All messages, invites, group, and event information is stored encrypted and might be unreadable if all participants lose the current encryption key - for example, all re-install the app at the same time.
Privacy & Safety
There is an option to disable “Show on Felse” that removes your profile from discovery results. Other people can still connect directly with you if you shared your profile code or some other user recommended your profile to them.
Felse does not show your location and for language tandem search the location is not required. For other search preferences, showing distance between profiles is tight to the basic functionality of the app and is therefore not possible to turn off. Nevertheless, only a rough location is saved with an accuracy lower than approx. 1km and the Felse does not show your location, but the rough distance only.
When you receive a new connection invite, you are able to swipe up the profile card in order to trigger the block and report option, where you decide for just blocking or also reporting the profile. For existing connections, these options are to be found in the connection information menu.
Felse uses server-side security so that only authenticated users can access shared data, so even if your profile is public, it is not readable or accessible by search engines. Any data exchanged is secured by end-to-end encryption, so group, event, message, or invites data are sent out from your device encrypted and stored on the server in an unreadable form. Data stored on your device is also encrypted and not available outside Felse.
